Assessment Task
Reflect upon and describe the role of the nursing professions regulatory standards, codes and guidelines
in the formation of professional identity, and how these professional regulations underpin the approach
to nursing practice.

Context
Nursing practice is underpinned by regulatory standards, codes, practice guidelines and frameworks. It
is important for the beginning Registered Nurse to develop an understanding of the role of these in the
formation of their professional identity for practice. Reflection on these concepts provides insights into
how these standards are applied to inform the care process and professional practice. Reflection on practice is an essential aspect of clinical reasoning, providing insights for continuous practice improvement and ongoing professional development. This is a reflective piece about your thinking and viewpoint in respect to the formation of your professional identity and how professional regulations will underpin your nursing practice.
Instructions
To complete this assessment, you must:
* Identify and reflect upon the nursing professions regulatory standards, codes and guidelines
that underpin the nurse’s approach to professional nursing practice. These were examined and
discussed across weeks 1 – 3 (Module 1.1 – 1.3)
* Consider the following definition of Professional Identity in Nursing and address the 2 questions
that follow.
“A sense of oneself, and in relationship with others, that is influenced by characteristics, norms, and
values of the nursing discipline, resulting in an individual thinking, acting and feeling like a nurse”
(Godfrey & Young, 2020, as cited in Godfrey, 2020, p.2).

- A cover page must be included which includes; subject name and code, assessment number,
student name, student number and word count. - Present your assessment in 12-point font, Arial or Times New Roman, 1.5 line spaced and a

documents, reports, publications, authentic webpages) related to the subject matter and not older than
