Rationale for assessment task :
It is not only mandated by nursing regulatory authorities that Cultural Safety is included within nursing curriculum, but nurses are also expected to be culturally safe practitioners by AHPRA. For this to occur we are required to understand the Cultural Safety Model and its application. This reflection piece requires the student to be fluent in the Cultural Safety Model.

You are to reflect on your own cultural identities and also your own Cultural Sensitivity and Cultural Awareness of the cultural safety model (Ramsden, 2002). Provide a 750-word reflection on your own cultural identities, power imbalance and impacts on healthcare

- Briefly outline your own cultural identities. (50 words)
- Using an historical lens, discuss how interpersonal power impacts on health care. Provide a minimum of two references to support your discussion. (300 words)
- Reflect upon your recent past and describe where you failed to be culturally sensitive or aware of another person or group. As a future nurse, discuss the role of the nurse in providing culturally safe care using Ramsden’s Cultural Safety Model (2002) . Provide a minimum of two references to support your discussion. (300 words)
- Provide a reflection of how completing this assessment has impacted on you, and why it is important to be historically literate when being culturally sensitive as a person and a nurse. (100 words)
