TASK GUIDANCE:
- Use scientific data, studies, ingredient testing and trials (these may be in-vivo, in-vitro, in-silico, animal, human, clinical or consumer-based evidence)
- Include details of the scientific evidence as to why the ingredient is (or was) used in cosmetic formulations, the chemical composition or derivative/adaptations/adulterations that may apply, whether the ingredients composition is synthetic or natural; (how is this determined?) along with specific data relating to the efficacy of the chemical component/s, percentage or W/W used and if this differs within types of cosmetics and/or in different countries, products within which it is use and any additional factors to be considered (environmental, ethical, ecological, sociological).
- The ingredient you select may be considered controversial with regards to the impact on other organs or systems within the body, e.g., toxic, carcinogenic, endocrine disruptive, etc. environmental damage or toxicity, damaging to marine life or water contamination, for example, restrictions or limitations with regards to the permitted quantities that can be included within a product. If the ingredient is controversial include specific evidence and discuss the details of those applicable and remedial action the cosmetic industry has (or could) take to limit the impact or eliminate the issue.

MARKING CRITERIA:
1) 10% of marks – Introduction explaining what will be discussed/included in the report, and conclusion to include recommendations. Correct use of grammar, punctuation, spelling and use of technical and professional terminology in context within the report.
2) 30% of marks – Critically examining industry specific clinical and scientific data/studies relating
to the use of the chosen cosmetic ingredient. (L1)
3) 30% of marks – Analysing scientific data relating to the efficacy, properties, benefits and effects
of the chosen cosmetic ingredient. (L2)

4) 20% of marks- Analysing the composition of the chosen cosmetic ingredient and the
quantity/formulation used, including the wider impact of the inclusion and use of the ingredient
relating to cellular impact, environment and ethical/social implications, (L2)
5) 10% of marks – Use of reliable academic sources and using them correctly throughout your
report.
