The Aim: The aim of this assignment is to provide an opportunity for the student to demonstrate achievement of the module learning outcomes by discussing contemporary issues within child and young person’s nursing.
Patchwork Folder: A patchwork assignment consists of a carefully structured series of short pieces of writing, carried out at regular intervals throughout the module. These patches can be varied in style and genre. To evidence how you achieved the module learning outcomes you are asked to produce 3 small patches, each 500 words. This will be supported by a final patch of 1000 words.

These will include:
- Patch one: A review of the literature
- Patch two: A poster
- Patch three: A short questionnaire “My time in Hospital”
You will have an opportunity to discuss and share the above three patches in class in small groups.
Patch four: Discussion paper (1000 words)
Each of the patches must be supported by relevant and contemporary evidenced based literature.
A Patchwork Folder Template has been provided to enable you to attach all 4 patches together for submission.

Patch three is for this assignment and should not be used in any practice setting.
There are four separate pages for you on this template and you should populate these with the required Patch. In the following paragraphs you are given information on what should be included in each patch. Please read the instructions carefully to make sure that you include everything that you are being asked for.
Patchwork: The Patches
Patch 1.
Context of Care: Review of the literature: ( 500 words)
From your reading outline the key attributes that the child and young person’s nurse should possess.
Formative: Week 1 –This will be discussed as part of the tutorial in class
Patch 2.
Context of care: Poster (500 words)
The poster should contain information on the role of the child and young person’s nurse in reducing the effects of hospitalisation. This should also demonstrate developmental awareness. The target audience is your peers.
Formative: Week 5 –This will be discussed as part of the tutorial in class
Patch 3.
Context of care: “My time in Hospital” (500 words)
Explain why it is important for the nurse to seek children and young people’s views about care delivery.
Compile a short questionnaire (3 – 4 questions only) for a child or young person about their time in hospital. Provide a brief rationale supported by literature for these questions.
Formative: Week 6 –This will be discussed as part of the tutorial in class

Context of care: Discussion paper (1000 words)
Discuss one challenge for the child and young person’s nurse in contemporary health care delivery.
Formative: This will be discussed as part of the tutorial/s in class
Finally, For Summative Submission ( Patches 1- 4 )
The Patchwork Folder Template is located in the Assessment tab on the GCU Learn module site. All four patches should now be uploaded together. Instructions on how to include the poster will be on GCU Learn and are easy to follow.
The discussion should meet the required academic level and supported by contemporary evidenced based literature and should be submitted through Turnitin once completed in full.

Referencing
The assignment should be supported by contemporary evidenced based literature and should include a reference list that follows the current GCU referencing guidelines accurately.
Each individual Patch MUST have supporting referencing inserted to support the text.
Word Count:
Your patches should be concise and succinct. Writing more will not get you a higher grade, writing with clarity and really keeping the focus on your priority area will.
The word count for patches one, two and three are 500 words each and the final patch four is 1000 words.
The reference list is not included in the word count, but all in-text references are included in the word count.
The word limit for this assignment is 2500 words in total.
University guidance stipulates that a 10% deduction from the final mark will be given if assignments are over 10% of the allocated total wordage.
